The Indonesian Flour Producers Association (APTINDO) appreciates the breakthrough and consistency of Satya WAcana Christian University (SWCU) in terms of wheat plant breeding. Especially since 2004, SWCU has been able to independently in terms of seed procurement even crops have become business activities. This was conveyed by Franciscus Welirang, Chairperson of APTINDO in the SWCU Wheat Harvest Festival, in Wates Village, Salatiga. This 17th harvest begins with the provision of seed assistance from Bogasari named Grass 2000 Bogasari seed. "From the first harvest from 2000 to 2003, the harvest is used for research needs. Then since 2004 the crops have improved and no longer just for research needs, but also for business activities. So the seeds of the harvest can be bought and sold. Even since 2005. SWCU has been able to foster partnerships with local farmers by providing seed assistance. Among others partnership farmers in Kopeng, Banjarnegara, and Boyolali, "said Franciscus Welirang who is also Director of Indofood.

Franciscus Welirang or who is familiarly called Franky Welirang, greatly appreciate SWCU because the only college that is consistent with wheat crop research since a dozen years ago until now this. SWCU is planting wheat in a 2.8 ha experimental plant of the SWCU Salary, Wates Village. Since 2005, SWCU has been carrying out mechanization starting from land treatment, planting and harvesting of wheat.

"We are proud of the very independent USKW. And it is fitting to plant and research alternative crops of wheat is developed by other universities. Of course it needs support from the government both in terms of policy and budget. In fact, SWCU is initially assisted and only within 3 years can finally be independent, "said Franky.

Franky Welirang explained, in 1998, through a research program "Bogasari Nugraha" PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk Bogasari Division held a research competition based on wheat and wheat flour. Bogasari Nugraha's team of experts was sent to the Indian Wheat Center exploring cooperation. Through the MoU between the Ministry of Agriculture of Indonesia and the Ministry of Agriculture of India, Bogasari may release wheat seed from India to Indonesia under the name DWR162.

In 1999, the seeds imported from India were given to SWCU Salatiga, IPB, Unibraw, UGM, Unsoed, and Slamet Riyadi University. The planting test by researchers on the campuses reaped results in several harvests in 2000 - 2005. "The grain-growing program was named Wheat 2000 Bogasari, according to the first harvest year. And, until the year 2016 is still consistent in the development of crops and routine harvest every year wheat is only Salatiga SWCU, "said Franky who is also Head of Bogasari Division.

He said that wheat that has been successfully grown in Indonesia is not intended as a raw material supply industry, but as an effort to make it as an alternative food community. "Forget its use for the industry. Wheat harvested in Central Java and East Java in Bogasari wheat project has been utilized by surrounding communities. They can pound and cook ground grain, because the skin and flour can be eaten at once. The soy sauce factories are also starting to take advantage of this local wheat, "added Franky. (RAP)
